Marriage Preparation with Prepare/Enrich Training
When being interviewed for a pastoral position years ago, Joy was asked if she were likely to be arrested for civil disobedience at an arms plant where a number of parishioners were employees. Though committed to the peace movement, her response was that one of the ways she worked for peace was by preparing couples for marriage and helping already married couples to strengthen their relationship. If families cannot learn to live peacefully together, how can we hope for peace on a broader perspective?
Joy started to use the Prepare/Enrich programs with couples through Life Innovations in the early 1980’s and has been teaching workshops for clergy, counselors, and therapists for seventeen years. Four inventories are available to couples, depending on their place in life:
Each inventory identifies the couple’s relationship strengths and growth areas and the programs provide a means of addressing these strengths and growth areas as well as enhancing a couple’s communication and conflict resolution skills.

Life Innovations also offers other materials for an overall program for strengthening relationships and marriages in a congregation. These programs are designed for youth and young adults as well as engaged and married couples, and focus on building relationship strengths. Building Relationships is a book available for youth and young adults; Empowering Couples is helpful for married couples.
Jimmy and Joy also are available to design programs for couples using Prepare-Enrich or other tools such as the Enneagram and the labyrinth.
