Maureen Conroy, a Sister of Mercy, is co-director of the Upper Room Spiritual Center and one of the original founders of Spiritual Directors International. Through her ministries of spiritual direction, supervision, teaching, writing, energy therapy and bodywork, she helps people to grow in their relationship with God and to be in touch with their deeper selves. Maureen holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from St. Mary’s University in Baltimore, Maryland. She is also a licensed massage therapist, cranial sacral therapist, and Tai Chi instructor. She is the author of numerous articles and five books.

Surrender Leads to Freedom:
Addiction, Co-dependency and Spiritual Growth

This workshop explores the experience of addicted and co-dependent persons and the role of personal prayer and spiritual direction in their recovery. In addition to input, there will be spiritual direction role plays and an opportunity for participants to prayerfully reflect on God’s presence in woundedness, unfreedom, and powerlessness in their own lives.

Some areas of exploration are:

• The meaning, causes, and characteristics of co-dependence
• Three phases of addiction and recovery
• Movement from compulsion to contemplation
• Recovery from the core wounds of co-dependency and addiction
• Specific ways to assist the recovery process
• Overall recommendations for spiritual directors
• Prayer experiences for people in recovery

Although specific applications to spiritual direction are made, pastoral ministers, therapists and health care practitioners are invited to participate.

REIKI ENRICHMENT PROGRAM:DEVELOPING A GRATEFUL HEART THROUGH REIKI

Gratitude shifts our energy, thoughts, and feelings. Having a grateful heart opens us more fully to receive the many blessings that are offered us each day.Come and experience the power of gratitude, enhance your “attitude of gratitude” through the experience of Reiki, and learn practical ways to develop a grateful heart through Reiki.

This enrichment experience will include:

• Self-reiki and meditation
• Input by Maureen Conroy followed by group discussion
• Offering one another individual and/or group Reiki Treatments

Reiki I
Healing Mind, Body and Spirit
Saturday, May 31, 9:00am to 6:00pm

Reiki (pronounced ray-key and meaning universal life force energy) is a natural form of healing which originated over 2500 years ago. The Reiki system is a gentle “laying-on of hands” healing process which helps to restore balance and harmony in our hearts and lives. Reiki supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself, balances life giving energy and fosters mental and spiritual well-being.

First Degree Reiki Training Includes:

• Receiving the First Degree Reiki Attunement, which connects you to the unlimited source of Reiki energy
• An overview of the meaning, purpose, effects and history of Reiki energy therapy
• Procedures for giving a complete Reiki treatment to others and oneself
• Supervised practice sessions: giving and receiving a full Reiki treatment using forty hand positions
• First Degree Reiki Certificate

Fee: $175 plus $10 for manual ($50 non-refundable deposit due May 23)

Reiki II
Expanding Your Healing Power
Sunday, June 1, 8:30am to 5:30pm

The Second Degree Reiki training builds on the energy healing process taught in the First Degree workshop. Individuals who desire to expand their energy healing abilities and open themselves to the deepening power of Reiki are encouraged to participate.

Second Degree Reiki Training Includes:

• Receiving the Second Degree Reiki Attunement
• The Reiki power symbols and their use in Reiki treatment
• How to diagnose and evaluate the energy flow in your clients
• Other procedures for a complete Reiki treatment
• Procedure for Absentee Reiki treatments (sending Reiki energy to someone at a distance)
• Supervised practice sessions
• Guidelines for opening your own Reiki practice
• Second Degree Reiki Certificate

Fee: $200 plus $10 for manual ($75 non-refundable deposit due May 23)
Required: First Degree Reiki Training

Reiki III
Strengthening Your Healing Power
Sunday June 1, 7:00pm - 9:30pm
& Monday, June 2, 8:30am - 3:00pm

The Advanced Level Reiki training builds on the healing process taught in the First and Second Degree workshops. Reiki practitioners who would like to strengthen their energy healing abilities are encouraged to participate.
Advanced Reiki Training Includes:

• Advanced Reiki Attunement and Symbols
• Advanced Reiki energy techniques called Beaming and Scanning
• The effects of Reiki energy on various dimensions of the physical body and energy body
• Seven ways to perceive energy
• Enhanced treatment procedures
• Collective absentee healing
• Reiki meditation exercises
• Supervised practice sessions
• Ways to expand, nourish and balance your own energy
• Advanced Reiki Certificate

Fee: $225 plus $10 for manual ($75 non-refundable deposit due May 23)
