Calling
Calling
By Joy Bergfalk
It is almost always God?s will
to do more of what gives you life.
Dennis Linn
Something is afoot. I had forgotten my prayer last year about Jesus calling the twelve disciples. I had a sense that I was to find twelve people called to the ministry of Project Empower. When that story came around this year (in a different Gospel), that sense became clearer. ? Just do it.
Let?s be clear. This is not about Joy calling twelve people to follow her. It?s about God calling others to this ministry of empowering women alongside me. People began coming out of the woodwork with enough to develop an additional circle of support around the twelve.
What is a call? It happens differently for each person. For some there is a direct sense, as the woman who came to me, not knowing about the discernment of the twelve, and told me she felt called to work with me. For others, it was a vague sense of something missing, and when we talked about the program, there was an ?Aha! That?s it!? Discerning a call includes what feels authentic to us.
Hence, the words of Dennis Linn: It is almost always God?s will for you to do more of what gives you life. There?s an inner recognition, a sense of being alive, when the fit is right. When it?s not, there?s a sense of duty, obligation, boredom, dread, resentment. That?s why call is essential!
We are finding creative and healthy ways of developing a team that shares the responsibilities of this growing program. Rather than looking to fill the needed skills, we are finding them represented or accessible on the basis of call. We will all get to do what we do best that enables all of us to do what we do best.
So, how are you called? What feels authentic to you? When do you feel most alive? How will you participate in bringing hope and healing into this world? May your discernment be clear. Of course, we would delighted if that included support of Project Empower in any shape or form!
